Giving a preference for a setting with an EHC Plan

If a child or young person has an EHC Plan you have a legal right to request that a particular setting is named in Section I. This includes a preference for an independent school, college or other institution.

The EHC consultation process

When the SEN Team consult with a setting, this is called the consultation process.

The SEN Team will send

  • a covering letter and response form detailing the consultation
  • a copy of the most recent EHC plan
  • the EHC review paperwork
  • any recent professional reports
