Most children and young people with SEND have their needs met through Quality First Teaching and SEND support.
An EHC Plan can be used where further support is needed. They are for children and young people aged 0-25.
The purpose of an EHC plan is to meet the special educational needs of the child or young person. We want to get the best outcomes for them across education, health, and social care, and to prepare them for adulthood.
The SEN Team are responsible for writing EHC Plans.
An EHC Plan is a forward-looking document. It will
- help raise aspirations, and outline the provision required to meet assessed needs. It will support the child or young person in achieving their ambitions.
- specify how services will be delivered as part of a whole package.
- explain how best to achieve the outcomes sought for the child or young person. This is across education, health and social care.
Before an EHC plan
Every child's journey is unique, but in general we will expect
- the setting to have followed Quality First Teaching and SEND support
- the setting to have requested and followed advice from SEND professionals
- the setting to have used the notional budget
- an Individual Learning Development Plan
- a SEND support plan to be in place
