  • Increasing complexity of needs, especially in early years, prompted the development of a more structured and inclusive approach.

The Mill Provision

  • A specialist engagement model for children from Reception to Year 2.
  • Currently supports 13 children, primarily with autism and complex communication needs.
  • Children remain on roll in mainstream classes and access both specialist and mainstream learning.

Curriculum & Approach

  • Follows an early years curriculum with:
    • Whole class and small group teaching
    • Sensory stories, bucket therapy, phonics
    • Positive Looking and Zones of Regulation
  • Emphasis on functional skillsindependence, and communication.
  • Use of visual aidsAAC devices, and communication boards.
  • Children participate in mainstream activities like trips, music, and PE with tailored support.

Integration & Progress

  • Structured routines enable children to gradually access mainstream settings.
  • Examples include:
    • A child attending a sculpture park trip independently
    • Another using visuals to complete a toothbrushing routine
  • Children show significant progress in communication, independence, and confidence.

Expansion Plans

  • Launching a semi-formal pathway for children ready for more structured learning.
  • Two new classes planned for Key Stage 1 and 2, with dedicated teachers and support staff.
  • Curriculum will remain personalized and EHCP-driven, focusing on life skills and communication.
